The physician owned practice, also known as a PC, can hire licensed medical professionals, medical directors and collaborating physicians. The PC can work with a management company utilizing the MSO/MSA model. This setup allows business owners generate income by working with physicians.

How Does the MSO/MSA Model Work?

A common misconception is that “If the doctor owns my practice, does the doctor keep a large portion of the profit?” The answer is no. There will be an agreement (MSA) between you and the doctor that clarifies ownership and accounting between the medical and non-medical management portions of the practice.
